Start by making Sally’s Baking Addiction’s Sugar Cookie Recipe. This is my favorite for sugar cookies! Then come back here for the icing ingredients and instructions!
Ingredients:
1 cup salted butter (softened to room temperature)
3 to 4 cups confectioner’s sugar (I prefer mine a little less sweet, 4 cups would be for those who prefer more sweet)
2 Tbsp heavy cream (you can use whole milk instead)
2 tsp vanilla extract
Optional: salt (~1/8 tsp)
Instructions
Use a stand mixer and add butter, mix and then add powdered sugar. You’ll add about 1 cup at a time and mix between additions, so it doesn’t go everywhere.
Add heavy cream and vanilla and mix with paddle attachment until well whipped, around 2 minutes.
You can add a touch of food coloring if you want different colors!
Put buttercream in piping bag, or leave it in the bowl and grab some spoons or butter knives.
Wait to frost until the cookies are completely cool.
Pipe “M” on each cookie, or draw the “M” with the back of a spoon. Practice saying the sound and thinking of words that start or end with the letter M.
Enjoy your creations!
Of course, this recipe can be repeated with a variety of letters for additional cookie-themed letter writing practice!
